The Importance of Conserving
Conserving, that is to say the art of making conserves, preserves,
jams and marmalades, is an essential part of refined society. If this
practice were to cease, the whole institution of the
Afternoon Tea
would be threatened, and with it the concept of Englishness.

such matters. One should be mindful that education, though a
necessity, is not in itself sufficient, and only through the
frequent practice of the arts of Afternoon Tea can civilisation
be properly preserved.
