Research

My work focuses on the electronic structure prediction of new materials for battery anodes. I utilise high-throughput computation (via the AIRSS method) in conjunction with density functional theory in order to predict the thermodynamically stable phases of materials. So much remains to be explored when it comes to materials at the atomic scale; my current focus is on lithium alloys, with questions like: what phases will form? what will these structures look like? and in which fields can these alloys be practically utilised? Computational electronic structure physics offers tremendous predictive and analytical tools that can be used together with traditional experimental methods in a feedback loop that accelerates the pace of research.
